Laser Process Engineer
The Xerox Direct Marking Products Group, based in the Portland, OR area, is seeking a Masters or Ph.D. level chemist, materials scientist or engineer with experience in laser systems and materials processing to support the ink jet business. The successful candidate will work on complex problems in a multi-disciplined team environment resulting in the introduction of new color and or 3D printers.
Responsibilities include maintain and extend the capability of a laser micromachining lab including operating and calibrating the systems.
Create new LabView programs to extend the capabilities of the opto-mechanical control systems.
Work with design engineers to understand requirements for the laser micromachining and be able to implement programs, hardware and control software to meet those requirements.
Lead in the rapid prototyping of parts needed by print head design engineers.
Supervise technicians in providing a part supply to the engineering team.
Participate in the transfer of hardware and system requirements to manufacturing and validating the process capability of the manufacturing systems.
Candidate is to be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of piezo-driven ink jet print heads. The successful candidate will work as part of a development team setting the direction of next generation ink print heads in a fast paced R&D environment. He/She is expected to participate in the design and development of the fluidic elements of the next generation of ink jet print heads, determining and solving design problems relating to jetting performance and their impact on cost, performance, and reliability.
Ph.D or equivalent in chemistry, engineering or material science with experience in laser materials processing, as well as experience in the following areas:
-Structured approach to problem solving.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to work with fast paced, multi-disciplinary team.
-Experience in LabView programming for opto-mechanical control systems
-Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD), Solid modeling (Pro-E), and FEA
-Familiarity with MatLab and with Excel Macros
-Development and qualification of processes or measurement systems a plus
-Demonstrated ability to be a team player, but work alone and/or in a small group.
