The work may be pure maintenance or it may also involve specialising in database development.\n\nTypical responsibilities include some or all of the following:\n\n\u2022 Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security;\n\n\u2022 Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users;\n\n\u2022 Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline;\n\n\u2022 Considering both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users;\n\n\u2022 Refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model;\n\n\u2022 Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements;\n\n\u2022 Installing and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS);\n\n\u2022 Maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;\n\n\u2022 Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata);\n\n\u2022 Controlling access permissions and privileges;\n\n\u2022 Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans;\n\n\u2022 Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;\n\n\u2022 Capacity planning;\n\n\u2022 Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and web developers;\n\n\u2022 Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security;\n\n\u2022 Commissioning and installing new applications and customising existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u2022 As the Production SQL DBA you will support the business critical applications based on Oracle and SQL Server.\n\n\u2022 Knowledge of SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 and 2008R2 along with any SQL clustering experience is required.\n\n\u2022 Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g along with RMAN\n\n\u2022 DR implementations experience is ideal.\n\n\u2022 Will have post graduate experience in a database administrator role, having been involved in at least one major system deployment.\n\n\u2022 Degree level in a Computer related science.
